Edit war, Iraq

The official list of member states of the "Union for the Mediterranean" is here. Iraq is, not surprisingly, not a member. Seriously, why would anybody expect it would be? Fut.Perf. 14:14, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Why would anyone expect Mauritania or Jordan would be? If a coast on the Mediterranean is not required, then there is no keeping Iraq out of it. Don't forget where Mediterranean civilization comes from. Izzedine (talk) 17:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Look, you are making a claim here, so it's up to you to back it up. Sources? You should have brought reliable sources for your claim right the first time it was challenged, rather than start edit-warring over it and repeating empty assertions. We are not going to add this claim just on your say-so. Fut.Perf. 17:15, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't have a source but perhaps someone else might, so maybe we could add a "citation needed" tag? Izzedine (talk) 19:10, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Nope, we have a source not showing Iraq as a member, so there is no reason to change anything until and unless a different source turns up. Even if you are right after all, there is no harm in leaving out the entry until then. What actually makes you think the country is a member? Fut.Perf. 19:31, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Euro-Mediterranean free trade area. Izzedine (talk) 21:16, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
That article too is entirely unsourced; furthermore, it seems to be talking about a free trade cooperation that isn't even yet in existence; and not even that article mentions any formal cooperation existing between the EU and Iraq. Fut.Perf. 21:54, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Strange how Iraq would be excluded from a Mediterranean Union.. but countries like Finland and Sweden included. Well.. Iraq will join Iran then. Izzedine (talk) 22:06, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
"The EU's policy towards Iraq should be seen in the broader context of the EU's strategic partnership for the Mediterranean" - [1] - Izzedine (talk) 22:29, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
"The EU is moving steadily towards enhancement of its relationship with Iraq, in all spheres" - [2] - Izzedine (talk) 23:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
You don't understand, Izzedine. This is an organization with membership. Iraq does not have membership. It doesn't matter whether or not Iraq is or is not "in the Mediterranean region" or is the "home of Mediterranean civilization". It isn't a member of the club at this time. (Taivo (talk) 23:40, 9 August 2009 (UTC))

Unprotecting

Due to the verifiability policy, controversial additions should not be added unless there's a source, and using a tag will not suffice. You must stop trying to add text that doesn't cite a reliable source. If you can find a reliable source to cite that satisfies verifiability policy then great, but if not you mustn't start reverting again. I've unprotected as there's really nothing to discuss without a source. Nja247 19:42, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. Maybe you could also release Turkish Flame's block now? I do hope this situation should be resolved now, and if not, it would hardly be his fault. Fut.Perf. 20:37, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Why was Nja's decision wrong? Izzedine (talk) 21:12, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Formatting

When this gets unprotected, could somebody please change the ugly space-wasting formatting of the notes:

<small>
*Bold - Borders the Mediterranean Sea
*Italic - Has overseas territory which borders the sea
*1 - EU member
*(1) - EU candidate
*2 - Arab League member
*3 - Observer member
</small>

to something like:

<small>Bold - Borders the Mediterranean Sea Italic - Has overseas territory which borders the sea <br /> 1 - EU member (1) - EU candidate 2 - Arab League member 3 - Observer member</small>

Bold - Borders the Mediterranean Sea  · Italic - Has overseas territory which borders the sea  · 1 - EU member
(1) - EU candidate  · 2 - Arab League member  · 3 - Observer member
