    Krujë is most well known as the hometown of Albania's national hero, Skanderbeg, where the Ottomans were successfully resisted from 1443 until 1478. The castle of Krujë was defended in four sieges against the Ottoman forces until after the death of Albania's greatest national hero Gjergj Kastrioti (Skanderbeg).
